Scott Weiland’s Music Catalog Partners With Primary Wave
What does that mean? Primary Wave, along with Weiland’s estate, now controls Scott’s incredible catalog, which includes publishing copyrights and recording royalties for everything recorded for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver!
It’s a big move.
The partnership also includes all songs and recordings Weiland released as a solo artist. Yes, even the Christmas album.
In this partnership, Primary Wave will now share in name, image and likeness rights with the estate and will work closely with the company’s marketing team and publishing infrastructure. Primary Wave will have a hand in all marketing, branding, digital, and synch opps.
Weiland’s catalog includes 16 Top Ten singles, eight #1s. STP received four Grammy nominations, winning ’94s “Best Hard Rock Performance”.
With Velvet Revolver, Weiland had massive success. Their ’04 debut, “Contraband”, debuted #1 on the Billboard 200, making it the best-ever debut for a rock band.
Weiland released four solo albums, with Rolling Stone magazine saying, “Weiland, out on his own, has simply made an honest album — honest in its confusion, ambition, and indulgence. It was worth the risk.”
Primary Wave founder & CEO, Lary Mestel said, “There are few rock artists that had the impact that Scott Weiland did on music. We are honored to partner with Scott’s family on such a legendary catalog of music and career. Scott’s influence on music is unparalleled and he remains one of the most influential musicians in rock music. We are extremely grateful the estate has chosen to partner with us to continue to grow his incredible legacy.”
Tragically, Weiland was found dead on his tour bus (toxic mix of drugs and alcohol) in December 2015. He was 48 years old. RIP to one of the greats – good to see his music and image will live on!
