Nine Inch Nails is “excited about starting on the next record”

April 7, 2024

It’s 1990. Who in the world would have ever thought you’d see a GQ cover story on Nine Inch Nails?! Well, that’s a reality in 2024 – as the band (Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross) get ready to record a new album!

Reznor and Ross were interviewed after being named as one of the winners of the Creativity Awards.

The duo have been focusing their creative energy on movie soundtracks lately, and Reznor said that those projects have “managed to make Nine Inch Nails feel way more exciting than it had been in the past few years. I’d kind of let it atrophy a bit in my mind for a variety of reasons.”

Atticus agreed, “I do feel excited about starting on the next record. I think we’re in a place now where we kind of have an idea.”

Reznor added, “I think coming out of a stretch of a number of films in a row, I want some time of seeing where the wind blows versus: There’s a looming date on a calendar coming up and we better get our shit together. And certainly in the last few weeks I’ve been itching to do what we often do, which is just come in and let’s start something that we’re not even sure what it’s for.”

Nine Inch Nails released an album of ambient instrumental music, Ghosts V: Together and Ghosts VI: Locusts, in 2020. Their last LP with lyrics was 2018’s Bad Witch.

Meanwhile, Nine Inch Nails has also been building their own new company, which will deal in “film production, fashion, a music festival, and a venture with Epic Games”.

Where the hell does Reznor and Ross find the time? No, seriously.Where?!
