Maiden, Soundgarden, Rage, White Stripes Among ’23 Rock Hall Nominees

February 2, 2023

“I’m really happy we’re not there and I would never want to be there. If we’re ever inducted, I will refuse — they won’t bloody be having my corpse in there.”

Let’s see if Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson keeps to his words, should his band get inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2023.

The Hall recently announced their list of ’23 nominees and the top vote-getters will be announced in May and inducted in the fall.

Iron Maiden, Rage Against The Machine and Soundgarden lead the way.

To be eligible for this year’s ballot, each nominee’s first single or album had to have been released in 1998 or earlier. It’s the frist time on the ballot for Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliot, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, George Michael, Willie Nelson, The White Stripes, Warren Zevon.

It’s the fifth nomination for Rage, the fourth for Kate Bush and The Spinners, and the second for Maiden and A Tribe Called Quest.

The 2023 class is picked by over 1,000 artists, historians, and members of the music industry.

Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson made headlines back in 2018 when he referred to the Rock Hall as “an utter and complete load of bollocks” during a spoken-word gig in Australia, saying the Hall is “run by a bunch of sanctimonious bloody Americans who wouldn’t know rock and roll if it hit them in the face.”

Sounds like sour grapes? Kinda, but not really. This is the FIFTH TIME Maiden is up for induction and it’s a joke that they weren’t inducted in their first nomination.

“Rock and roll music does not belong in a mausoleum in Cleveland,” Dickinson added. “It’s a living, breathing thing, and if you put it in a museum, then it’s dead. It’s worse than horrible, it’s vulgar.”

Do you think Iron Maiden will decline the induction should they get voted in? And of course, should the “Rock Hall” be renamed, since they’re considering inducting Kate Bush, Missy Elliot, George Michael and Willie Nelson this year? Or are they considered rock and I’m just out to lunch?
