Will Smith Signs Record Deal With SLANG

Damn, SLANG has been making moves! The independent record label is working with Big Sean, Mary J. Blige, Cardi B, Roddy Rich and now, add Will Smith to that list.

Smith just signed a new record deal and is working on his first album in nearly 20 years.

Question is, do you care? Have you gotten past ‘the slap’?

SLANG is run by music executive Rene McLean, a co-founder of Influence Media Partners. McLean said in a statement, “I’m proud to lead SLANG’s efforts to partner with quality artists and invest in their growth, regardless of genre or where they are in their respective careers.

“In a quickly changing music industry, SLANG artists will be surrounded by a team of like-minded strategists who will stop at nothing to further their trajectory and help them meet their goals. Our commitment to culture comes first, and we consider our SLANG roster family.”

If you missed it, last month Smith performed his new song ‘You Can Make it’ at the 2024 BET Awards (with Sunday Service Choir, gospel icon Kirk Franklin and R&B singer Fridayy).

While on stage, Smith said, “Nobody gets an easy ride. We all have a cross to bear, but there’s wisdom in the fire, and every moment is an opportunity. Embrace the journey.”

Smith, of course, is one-half of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince – who released their debut album ‘Rock The House’ in 1987. ‘Summertime’ and ‘Parents Just Don’t Understand’ were chart-smashers for them and in 1989, the duo won the first-ever Grammy for Best Rap Performance.

Smith’s last album was 2005’s ‘Lost & Found’. Almost 20 years ago.

‘The Slap’ aside, of course I’ll give Will’s new album a listen when it comes out. Will you?
