My oldest kid asked me this morning if I was going to write anything about the new Star Wars trilogy. You’ve heard of this, right? X-Men: Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg is working on something as I type! The 7 year old geek in me is doing the happy dance.
They’re saying the new movies will carry on from the most recent trilogy. Seems an obvious place, but, you know…
So it picks back up after 2019’s The Rise Of Skywalker. Roger. Word is, episodes 10-12 will centre around new characters and will have a new storyline. Of course, don’t rule out seeing some old, familiar faces.
If you didn’t know, Kinberg was a consultant on The Force Awakens and will write and produce these new movies. He previously wrote X-Men movies, 2015’s Fantastic Four and The Martian. A director hasn’t been announced. But pick someone nerdy, please.
The buzz is that it’ll be the directorial debut of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy – he’s directed episodes of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel and has won two Oscars for Best Documentary Short Film. Seems we’re in good hands.
Honestly, nothing else is known, really. Will it tie into the existing Skywalker Saga? No idea. AND, does this mean the Rey-led movies are being put on ‘pause’, so they can work on this new trilogy? Maybe?
The next Star Wars film set for release is The Mandalorian and Grogu in May 2026.
I haven’t been this excited for anything Star Wars related since actress Gina Carano was given the chance to move forward with her legal case against Disney.
