Finally! Warner Bros. has released the first teaser trailer for DC Studios’ / James Gunn‘s upcoming Superman movie!
As you can see, the trailer starts with Superman crash-landing somewhere cold and icy, face bruised and covered in blood.
In true cryptic style, you only hear two spoken lines in the trailer. First, Superman whistles for his dog, Krypto, and says, “Home. Take me home”. And later, a young boy lifts a flag into the air and says, “Superman, Superman”.
David Corenswet plays Superman, who joking to ComicBook.com said, “I’ll say this, you see in the trailer Krypto is dragging me through the snow. Do you think he’s gonna drag me through the snow all the way to Kansas?”
Most of the filming for Superman took place in the US; in Atlanta, Georgia, and Cleveland, Ohio. They went to Norway to film scenes with Superman flying to his Ice Fortress.
You may remember that James Gunn confirmed in October that Krypto the Superdog would make his live-action debut. He said Krypto’s inclusion was inspired by his own dog, Ozu, “Ozu, who came from a hoarding situation in a backyard with 60 other dogs & never knew human beings, was problematic to say the least. He immediately came in & destroyed our home, our shoes, our furniture – he even ate my laptop. It took a long time before he would even let us touch him.

Gunn added, “I remember thinking, “Gosh, how difficult would life be if Ozu had superpowers?” – and thus Krypto came into the script & changed the shape of the story as Ozu was changing my life. What better time to debut the not-so-good-good-boy Krypto than #AdoptAShelterDog Month.”
Superman dates back to 1939, and his motto, “Truth, Justice and the American Way” has became synonymous with the DC Icon. However, in 2021, DC swapped it out for a new motto, “Truth, Justice and a Better Tomorrow.”
Here’s what Gunn shared on his Twitter account today (Dec 19), talking about how he incorporated what Superman represents for America and the world into the movie, “I think that’s what ‘Take me home’ is all about. We do have sort of a battered vision of Superman at the beginning, and I think that is our country.
“I believe in the goodness of human beings, and I believe that most people in this country, despite their ideological beliefs or their politics, are doing their best to get by and trying to be good people, despite what it may seem like for the other side, no matter what that other side might be.”
Superman, is set to hit theatres on July 11, 2025 and is the first movie in the new DC Universes, a reboot of the DC Extended Universe that will have united continuity and stories across live-action films, TV series, animation and video games.
Do you think this will be the best Superman movie ever made? The trailer would suggest so, right?
