Violet Grohl Announces Debut Album ‘Be Sweet To Me’

Violet Grohl is stepping into the spotlight!

The Los Angeles singer-songwriter, and, you know, the daughter of Dave Grohl, just announced her debut album Be Sweet To Me, arriving May 29 via Aurora Records, Republic Records and Island Records.

Alongside the announcement, she’s released a new single called 595, a punchy, cheeky track reportedly inspired by “a vintage T-shirt advertising a phone sex line.” The lyrics lean into the joke: “I’ll be your 1-900-G spot, baby / 595 I’m on the line / You won’t last.”

The album was recorded between late 2024 and early 2025 at producer Justin Raisen’s Los Angeles home studio. Raisen (known for work with Kim Gordon, Charli XCX and Sky Ferreira) assembled a rotating group of musicians for the sessions, working in what a press release describes as the “spirit of the Wrecking Crew session players of the ’60s and ’70s.”

Grohl says the record pulls inspiration from alternative music’s golden stretch in the late ’80s and ’90s.

“There’s something so powerful about that period of music,” she said. “From the messaging to the visuals, it’s authentic and raw. I’ve listened to that stuff since I was a kid.”

Grohl had already previewed the album with singles Thum and Applefish earlier this year.

She also recently released What’s Heaven Without You, a track inspired by filmmaker David Lynch and timed to mark the first anniversary of the director’s death. The song will appear as a special Record Store Day exclusive 7-inch on April 18, backed with the B-side Swallowtail.

Meanwhile, Dave Grohl recently admitted he had no idea his daughter had actually landed a record deal until she told him over dinner.

“So Violet, my daughter, she’s 19, about to turn 20,” he said. “She made this album with a producer named Justin Raisen, and she did it on her own. She met the producer, they’d go to the studio every day, and she’d send me songs when she finished them. But I had absolutely nothing to do with this record at all.”

He added that while he knew she was looking for a deal, the news still surprised him.

“I had no idea. She said, ‘Hey dad, can I come over for dinner tonight?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, sure. What do you want me to make?’ And she came over and told me, ‘I signed my record deal today.’ I’m just like, ‘Oh my God!’ So I’m totally uninvolved.”

“I’m the dad who wants to be there and know everything,” he continued. “And she’s just totally doing her own thing. It’s amazing.”

Grohl has performed alongside her father before, including backing vocals on Foo Fighters tours beginning in 2018 and appearances at the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts in 2022. She also appeared on the band’s 2023 track Show Me How and joined them at Glastonbury Festival that same year.

More recently, surviving members of Nirvana reunited for a benefit performance in Los Angeles, with Violet Grohl taking lead vocals on All Apologies.
