U2 pay tribute to Larry Mullen Jr at Vegas Sphere residency

October 3, 2023

U2 started their Vegas residency at the MSG Sphere dedicating ‘All I Want Is You’ to their drummer Larry Mullen Jr, who isn’t at the shows for various injuries.

Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and fill-in drummer Bram Van Den Berg all gave Larry a tribute, dedicating their ’88 hit song ‘All I Want Is You’ to him. Mullen Jr. sin’t playing the 25 date residency due to injuries he sustained to his elbows, knees and neck.

Mullen Jr. said all injuries are drumming-related, and said that he would “like to take some time… to get myself healed”.

He’s since had surgery to address the injuries.

During an interview with Apple Music 1, singer Bono said, “It’s really tricky for him. He didn’t know if he could play for an hour or… he didn’t know if he could play for 15 minutes. And he just played up the storm… It took its toll on Larry.”

Talking to the Daily Star newspaper, the band shared thoughts on playing shows without Larry, “The whole band and I’m sure the audience are going to be very sad and miss Larry. He wants to come back, he wants to be able to have a long career and continue his drumming so he’s taking care of those injuries.”

U2 is expected to play to over 300,000 people over their Vegas residency!
