Take your time, why don’t you? IO Interactive has finally released a teaser for their long-awaited James Bond game, 007 First Light!
Playstation had a State of Play showcase one yesterday (Wednesday, June 4) and IO Interactive shared the first trailer (below). You may remember that the game was first announced back in 2020 and was called ‘Project 007’ at the time. So, five years later, LFG!
IO Interactive’s reveal confirmed that you’ll be able to get your grubby hands on 007 First Light sometime next year. They haven’t confirmed a release date. It will be an origin story, kind of. You’ll play as a young James Bond working towards earning the designation as agent 007.
Not super super young. 26 years old Bond. In the trailer, M describes Bond as “a bullet without a target” and sends him on a mission in hopes of focusing Bond.
The trailer also shows the slick 007 First Light‘s gameplay. If you’ve played the Hitman franchise, you’ll know what to expect.
An official description of the game reads: “In 007 First Light, Bond starts as a NAVY air crewman, when against all odds, an audacious act of bravery propels him on MI6’s most challenging training program. This training coupled with his natural instinct, wits, and heart will see him grow into a fully-fledged spy. It’s a completely original standalone story, developed in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios.”
You’ll get another look at 007 First Light‘s gameplay later this summer. All will be revealed.
In 2021, IO CEO Hakan Abrak said 007 First Light would have an original story: “It was very important for us that it wasn’t a movie adaptation. It’s not a game about a specific movie, where the story has already been told. Every Bond defines a generation and it’s amazing how they kept reinventing themselves over so many years,” he explained. “We’re inspired by the whole thing, and just sucking things into us to make an original Bond, an original story, but that is absolutely true and recognizable in the values there is in Bond.”
007 First Light is the first new James Bond game in 14 years. The last was 2012’s 007 Legends, which the critics bombed. Somehow I don’t think you’ll have to worry about that with the new 007 First Light game.
You’ll be able to get 007 First Light on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
