The Beatles’ Anthology is making a comeback, complete with a new book, a restored documentary series (with a never-before-seen episode), and a new album!
Rumours started on August 20th when Paul McCartney put out a cryptic post online, sparking speculation the long-dormant project might return.
Now, it’s official.
As you’ll remember, the original Anthology launched in 1995 with Anthology 1, an eight-part docuseries, and new music from the surviving Beatles. McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr teamed with Jeff Lynne to finish John Lennon demos, giving us “Free as a Bird” and “Real Love.” Two more albums followed in ’96, Anthology 2 and Anthology 3.
So cool, right? Nearly 30 years later, we’re getting Anthology restored, remastered, and expanded. Episode Nine, a new episode, has never-before-seen footage of McCartney, Harrison, and Starr working together in the mid-’90s. It premieres on Disney+ Nov 26.
That’s not all. The Anthology Music Collection, originally overseen by George Martin, has been remastered by Giles Martin and drops Nov 21. Expect three reissued double albums plus a brand-new Anthology 4, with 13 unreleased demos and session recordings, plus updated mixes of “Free as a Bird” and “Real Love.” The set will be available digitally, on 12LP heavyweight vinyl, and in an 8CD box set.
Also on deck: the Beatles Anthology Book – 25th Anniversary Edition (Oct 14). Clocking in at 1,300 photos, documents, and never-seen memorabilia, the book captures the Beatles’ own words along with insights from Neil Aspinall, George Martin, and Derek Taylor.
And remember “Now and Then”? The Lennon demo abandoned during the original Anthology sessions? McCartney and Starr finally finished it in 2023 using AI tech, marking the “last Beatles song.”
In other Beatles news, Lennon and Yoko Ono’s New York years and political activism are being spotlighted in a new Power To The People box set, and McCartney’s Got Back 2025 North American tour is on the way.
