‘The Batman 2’: Delays Have Hit Gotham
You’ve known about the plans for a sequel to The Batman since it was officially announced during a CinemaCon presentation from Warner Bros. on April 26, 2022.
Writer/director Matt Reeves said, “Thank you all for your tremendous support for The Batman. We couldn’t have gotten here without the faith and enthusiasm of all your teams around the world. I’m excited to jump back into this world for the next chapter.”
Here’s what you should know since then…
Yes, Robert Pattinson is back as The Batman. Zoë Kravitz is Catwoman. Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon. Andy Serkis as Alfred.
The only character who definitely won’t be in The Batman – Part Two is Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), who was killed in The Batman.
When James Gunn and Peter Safran became heads of DC Films, Reeves hadn’t even delivered a finished script for The Batman – Part Two. At the time, DC planned to release the movie on October 3, 2025.
Filming started in March ’24 – delayed because of the writer’s strike – which, of course, delayed the movie by a year. Now, released date: October 2, 2026.
But HOW ABOUT THE VILLAIN?! Will you see Colin Farrell return to play Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin? Maybe The Riddler (played by Paul Dano)? The Joker (played by Barry Keoghan)? Keoghan teased his involved in an online post.
Check out what Matt Reeves said at a press event in February 2022, about making villains more realistic, “I just feel drawn to finding the grounded version of everything. So to me it would be a challenge in an interesting way to try and figure out how that could happen, even the idea of something like Mr. Freeze, that’s such a great story, right? I think there’s actually a grounded version of that story, which could be really powerful and could be really great.”
Reeves mentioned Mr. Freeze and possibly Hush to make a debut soon – although it might not be in The Batman – Part Two.
Pattinson told Den Of Geeks that one of his favourite storylines from the Batman universe is the Court of Owls, a hidden society that secretly rules Gotham. “I’d love to do something like Court Of Owls. There are elements of The Batman which are kind of horror and I think it really feels quite new for Batman.”
DC head honcho James Gunn has debunked rumours that Boyd Holbrook has been cast as Two-Face.
That’s about it for now. Do you think The Batman – Part Two will live up to the hype?
