Sum 41 say goodbye with the release of Rage Against The Machine’s ‘Sleep Now In The Fire’ cover

You know I love a good cover song! Sum 41 just released a cover of Rage Against The Machine‘s ‘Sleep Now In The Fire’, marking the band’s farewell.

As you’ll remember, Sum 41 announced in late ’23 that they were breaking up. Not taking a hiatus. Breaking up.

BUT they’d do one last album, one last tour called ‘Tour Of The Setting Sum’. That tour is over. 13 shows here in Canada.

Now, as part of the Spotify singles series, Sum 41 put out a cover of Rage and a new version of ‘Landmines’ (from Sum’s ’24 album ‘Heaven :x: Hell’).

Sum 41 said, “Recording these Spotify Singles has been an incredible way to celebrate with our fans around the world. We’re so grateful for their support and excited to share this special session with everyone.”

Last summer, guitarist Dave Baksh and bassist Jason “Cone” McCaslin talked to NME about the band being stronger in recent years, after singer Deryck Whibley’s health issues. “We took about two years off for Deryck to figure out his health problems and then when we got back together with Dave it just seemed (right). When everything got back together it felt really good. It’s been a rollercoaster for our whole career so it feels good to be playing these big festivals and higher up on the bill now.”

Meanwhile, Sum 41 jumped on their Twitter account to respond to Rage Against The Machine’s recent announcement that they were done playing live shows. They posted a cover of ‘Battle of Los Angeles’ highlight and expressed love for “one of (their) all time favourite bands”. “In the light of the news of (Rage Against The Machine) never performing again, we wanted to salute one of our all time favourite bands.”

Pretty cool version of a Rage classic. What’s your favourite cover song of all-time?
