Queens Of The Stone Age tease ‘Alive In The Catacombs’ live release

Queens Of The Stone Age is teasing a new live album, ‘Alive In The Catacombs’!

If you’re reading into it, this must be the show that QOTSA played at the historic Catacomb of Paris last year. It’s rumoured the set was an “unplugged session”, no audience and was recorded for a future broadcast.

Earlier this week, QOTSA shared the above video, shot at the underground ossuaries in the French capital (where the remains of more than six million people are housed).

You see “Queen Of The Stone Age – Alive In The Catacombs” displayed at the end of the teaser, then “coming soon”.

In the below, slightly longer follow-up video, you see singer Josh Homme singing into an old-fashioned microphone. “Coming sooner”.

The Catacombs have been open to the public since the 19th century, and is a popular tourist attraction in Paris. Queens Of The Stone Age were the first band to perform there.

Homme explained: “I’ve been working on it for 18 years, trying to get myself inside of this exalted place in Paris. And it’s completely live.

“I’d like to take some of these ideas, which are sort of ubiquitous – like a live record – and do something a little different with them. Because I think with the way the internet is, people can see us play live so simply, in so many different ways, that I’d like to do something live that cannot be seen in a way that is not often done.”

Joash added, “And we release those versions. And let the fans control the rest. The fans can control the rest of how to see us live. Come see us play, watch it online. I don’t care how a baby takes his medicine – blown up the ass or down the throat. However you find our music and however you wanna find it is fine for me, but I would like to try to do some of these ideas in a different way. So, that’s why I mentioned the Catacombs.”

Meanwhile, QOTSA play two big outdoor headlining sets in the UK this summer; Sheffield’s Rock N Roll Circus and Portmouth’s Victorious Festival. There will be a European tour later in the year, too.

Last summer Josh said he was going to ‘roll his sleeves up’ so you wouldn’t need to wait so long for a new album. Wonder if his sleeves are currently rolled up, working away on new music? Let’s hope so. The Catacombs show is cool, but let’s hear new Queens!
