Well, if you care – this year’s Oscars nominations were announced yesterday (January 23).
I say it like that because I just don’t see enough new movies for it to have an adverse impact on my life. You know? Are there certain movies, actors, actresss, directors that I like? Sure. I’m interested, just sitting on the fence of whether I truly care or not. I guess.
If you haven’t heard, this year’s Oscars are on March 2 – the 97th Academy Awards – announced (watch in video above) by Wicked and SNL star Bowen Yang and Bottoms and Shiva Baby’s Rachel Sennott.
Conan O’Brien is hosting the ceremony. Thankfully, that alone could make the Oscars worth watching.
Most nominations this year? Thirteen! Jacques Audiard’s original musical thriller Emilia Perez leads the charge, nominations include Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress for Karla Sofía Gascón and Best Supporting Actress for Zoe Saldaña.
Coming in at a dismal/embarrassing ten nominations? Brady Corbet’s architectural epic The Brutalist and Jon M. Chu’s Broadway adaptation Wicked.
Do we even talk about movies with ten or fewer nominations? Fine. If we must.
The Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown and papal drama Conclave both got eight nods. Sean Baker’s Anora has six nominations.
Of course, I kid. Multiple nominations is an incredible feat, for any movie. Impressive work for Jacques Audiard’s original musical thriller Emilia Perez!
