January 29, 2023

There’s something cryptic at Depeche Mode’s website and it’s likely teasing the first single from their upcoming 15th album, ‘Memento Mori’.

The band posted to their Instagram account, “Time is fleeting, see what it brings.”

And when you click through their website, the countdown asks you for your name and address. When you sign up, you get a thank you message and links to pre-save music on streaming platforms.

Depeche Mode’s new album is being released on March 17. It’s their first new album since ’17s ‘Spirit’ album and the first since the death of founding member, keyboardist Andy Fletcher; died last May at the age of 60.

‘Memento Mori’ is a direct reference to the loss of Fletcher – a “memento mori” is an object kept as a reminder of the inevitability of death.

Keyboardist Martin Gore said, “It sounds very morbid, but I think you can look at it very positively as well. In that [you should] live each day to the max. I think that’s how we like to interpret it too… After Fletch’s passing, we decided to continue as we’re sure this is what he would have wanted, and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning.”

New Depeche Mode is coming. And if their website is any indication, likely sooner than later!
