Metric has announced their new album Romanticize The Dive, and released the lead single,Victim Of Luck. AND the details of a major tour with Broken Social Scene and Stars!
The band’s 10th studio album comes April 24 and marks their first new material since 2022 and 2023’s Formentera and Formentera II. Victim Of Luck sets the tone, looking back at the hunger, fearlessness, and ambition of Metric’s early years while questioning what gets lost with time and success.
Singer Emily Haines describes the track as a turning point lyrically, pushing herself to be more direct and vulnerable than ever before. Rather than hiding behind metaphor, she leans into self-reflection, ageing, insecurity, and the pressure of living up to an image she helped create.
The accompanying video leans hard into nostalgia, blending previously unseen archive footage from Metric’s early touring days with present-day imagery. Shot in collaboration with photographer Mark “The Cobrasnake” Hunter, the clip captures the band riding in vans, playing to tiny crowds, and chasing momentum long before the spotlight arrived.
That sense of returning to the source also shaped the album itself. Metric recorded Romanticize The Dive at New York’s Electric Lady Studios with producer Gavin Brown, revisiting the creative chemistry that defined Fantasies and Synthetica. For Haines and the band, it was a chance to ask a simple but loaded question: what is the essence of Metric?
Rather than chasing reinvention, Romanticize The Dive is about reclaiming purpose, connection, and the communal spirit that first drew people to the band.
As Haines puts it, it’s not escapism. It’s a way to live.
