Metallica is reportedly close to finalizing a deal that would see them take over the Las Vegas Sphere for a residency in 2027!
You’ve likely heard the rumours circulating. For months there’s been talk that Metallica could be next in line to headline the cutting-edge venue, with local reports last summer suggesting the band were already preparing to ink a deal. Both Lars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo have also spoken openly about the possibility in recent interviews, further fuelling speculation.
Now, a report from The Sun claims the deal is roughly 90 per cent complete, citing a Las Vegas source who says only final signatures remain.
“Metallica having a residency at the Sphere is all anyone is talking about on the Strip,” the source said. “They’ve met with the bosses and the tech team to plan out what a show could look like.”
The Sphere has quickly become one of the most talked about live music venues in the world, hosting residencies from U2, Phish, Dead & Company, the Eagles and the Backstreet Boys. It is also home to an immersive 4D presentation of The Wizard of Oz.
The band themselves have shown no shortage of enthusiasm. Last April, Kirk Hammett described the Sphere as a glimpse into the future of live performance, calling it “a great example of how venues are changing” and praising its use of modern technology and AI to create fully immersive experiences.
Ulrich echoed that excitement in August, saying he would “fucking love” to play the Sphere, while Trujillo called the idea a “dream come true,” adding that the creative possibilities would be limitless.
As for the immediate future, you can see Metallica touring the UK and Europe this summer with a run of stadium dates across Dublin, Glasgow, Cardiff and London. Support on select nights will come from Gojira, Pantera, Knocked Loose and Avatar.
More than four decades into their career, Metallica continue to push the scale of heavy metal forward. And a Vegas Sphere residency seems to be the next logical step.
