About time, bud. Matt Reeves has finally finished writing the script for the long-awaited The Batman II.
Reeves took to Instagram to share a picture of the script yesterday (June 28), saying, “Partners in Crime (Fighters)” and tagged co-writer Mattson Tomlin. The first page of the script is blurred out, but you can see the Batman logo.
Director James Gunn recently came to Reeves’ defence, saying, “People should get off Matt’s nuts. Because it’s like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it.”
If you missed it, The Batman sequel was delayed to a 2027 release. That’s led some people to wonder if it’ll even be released. Last year, Gunn said that a five year wait between movies is ‘fairly common’ in cinema, saying there was seven years between the second and third Guardians Of The Galaxy movies.

Earlier this month, Gunn said The Batman II is vital to DC’s future, “What Matt’s doing is still really important, despite all stories to the contrary. We’re supposed to see that script shortly, and I can’t wait”.
As you know, in the ’22 The Batman, actor Robert Pattinson starred as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Paul Dano was The Riddler and Colin Farrell was The Penguin. That movie came out before the restructuring of DC’s film division in late ’22. But what the hell? DC without The Batman? No.
Honestly, anyone thinking The Batman II was going to get shelved is insane.
The Batman II was originally supposed to be released this October, but delays due to last year’s SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes pushed the release back a whole year, now expected to hit theatres October 2 2026.
