Marilyn Manson: ‘Unmasked’ Three-Part Documentary To Air On U.K.’s CHANNEL 4 This Month

Marilyn Manson fans will be flocking to U.K.’s Channel 4 later this month to watch a three-part documentary series about the shock-rocker.

When it was announced in October 2023, it was originally called “Marilyn Manson: Behind The Mask – now, “Marilyn Manson: Unmasked” will show you his rise to fame, significance and role as a counterculture icon. As you’d expect, the series looks into the recent accusations against Manson, and his ability to be controversial, while high-profile sexual assault allegations swirl ’round.

But we knew Manson is all about controversy, right? From the get-go. We was out to shock. For decades. He became iconic. Fans would justify his actions, his shocking lyrics, inappropriate behaviour at concerts – ‘oh it’s social or political satire’, they’d say.

Okay, admittedly, this is a much bigger story than what I’m currently ready to get into – to type out – to research. But what I can tell you is the Coles-Notes:

In February 2021 several women accused Manson (Brian Warner) of sexual assault. His manager then dropped him within 24 hours. Same for his agent and record label. Late that year, Rolling Stone published an article of allegations from multiple women. In total, five women launched civil lawsuits against Manson, claiming sexual assault and other charge. To date, no charges have been made but civil cases are pending.

This new series, “Marilyn Manson: Unmasked”, dives deeper, alongside Rolling Stone’s ongoing investigation, and asks questions about this moment in the culture, where Marilyn Manson is fighting to defend himself against allegations from women who have recently accused him of abusive behaviour. Allegations that happened years ago, that Manson’s lawyers argue were entirely consensual, or just never even happened.

Gus Wenner, CEO Rolling Stone, said: “Rolling Stone broke the story about Marilyn Manson’s alleged abuse and this series takes a step back to explore those allegations in the wider context of Manson’s career, his meteoric rise as the self-proclaimed ‘Antichrist Superstar’ and the controversy surrounding his recent fall from grace. We are proud to partner with Lightbox to tell this fascinating and complex story.”

“Marilyn Manson: Unmasked” airs January 14, January 15 and January 16 at 9 p.m. GMT on Channel 4.

Cultural icon or not, what are your thoughts on everything that’s going down around Manson right now?
