Lana Del Rey has stepped into the Bond universe. It’s not a rumour this time. It’s the real thing.
Her new track, “First Light”, is the theme for 007: First Light, an upcoming title from IO Interactive, the studio behind Hitman. The game digs into an original origin story for 007, with Patrick Gibson taking on the role of James Bond.
And you gotta love the supporting cast! Lenny Kravitz, Priyanga Burford, Alastair Mackenzie, Kiera Lester, Noemie Nakai and Lennie James all in the mix.
The song is elegant, shadowy, and has a slow-burn tension. Built alongside Bond veteran David Arnold, whose résumé includes Casino Royale and Tomorrow Never Dies, it feels classic.
IO Interactive boss Hakan Abrak called the pairing “instantly Bond”, while Arnold leaned into the bigger picture. A Bond theme isn’t just a song, it’s an invitation. And for Lana Del Rey, this has been a long time coming.
Back in 2015, she revealed she’d written a theme for Spectre, only to see it passed over in favour of Sam Smith’s “Writing’s On The Wall”. Even Radiohead had their shot at that soundtrack.
007: First Light arrives May 27 on Xbox, PlayStation and PC, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version arriving later this year.
As for what’s next, Lana Del Rey’s upcoming album Stove is still scheduled to come out later this year.
After years of almosts, Lana Del Rey finally gets her Bond theme. And it sounds like it was worth the wait.
