James Gunn says new ‘Wonder Woman’ movie is “being written right now”

Okay, this is cool. DC Studios head honcho James Gunn says a new Wonder Woman movie is being written for the DC Universe!

As you know, actress Gal Gadot played the character in the now-cancelled DC Extended Universe. She starred in 2017’s Wonder Woman and its sequel, Wonder Woman 1984 (2020). She was also in Batman Vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017). The last time she played the character was in 2023, with cameos in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash.

In late 2022, Gunn was made co-CEO of DC Studios, basically given the keys to reboot the franchise. That’s known now as the DC Universe. This universe starts with July’s Superman, directed by Gunn himself, with new versions of Superman’s Justice League colleagues coming too!

Apparently one of those characters is Wonder Woman aka Diana Prince. Gunn recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly and told them that an HBO show based on her home of Themyscira is “slow moving, but it’s moving”. Right?! Cool!

He also said a script is “being written right now”. Will Gadot star? Dunno. It wasn’t revealed.

As is, you can expect Superman in theatres as of July 11. Supergirl: World of Tomorrow arrives on June 26, 2026. A movie based on the villain Clayface is expected to be released on September 11, 202t.

Recently Gunn reiterated that the sequel to The Batman, which isn’t part of the DC Universe, is still happening. “What Matt’s doing is still really important, despite all stories to the contrary”, he said and then added, “We’re supposed to see that script shortly, and I can’t wait.”

Which comic book super hero / villain do you wish they’d make a movie about? Personally, a Silver Surfer origin movie. Please.
