Sure, progress is “slow” on the sequel to The Batman. Agreed. And DC head honcho James Gunn says you “don’t need to be entitled about it”.
As you know, actor Robert Pattinson starred as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Matt Reeves’ 2022 smash, which told a darker tale of Gotham City and co-starred Paul Dano as The Riddler and Colin Farrell as The Penguin.
The movie was a box office success and fans have been talking about a sequel ever since. Reeves’ Batman was released before the restructuring of DC’s film division back in late ’22, when Gunn was made co-CEO of DC Studios with Peter Safran. They then launched a rebooted DC Universe.
The Batman sequel is delayed to a 2027 release has critics wondering if it’ll even see the light of day. Last December, Gunn said a five year wait between movies is ‘fairly common’, saying there were seven years between the second and third Guardians Of The Galaxy movies.
Fair enough, right?
Now, during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn defended the wait, saying he’s “supposed to” get the script this month. Adding, “I hope that happens. We feel really good about it.”
“People should get off Matt’s nuts because it’s like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it. That’s just the way it is. He doesn’t owe you something because you like his movie. I mean, you like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does.”
Gunn added, “I am irritated by people. I mean, it’s just that thing people don’t need to be entitled about. It’s going to come out when he feels good about the screenplay. And Matt’s not going to give me the screenplay until he feels good about the screenplay.”
Meanwhile, actor Robert Pattinson said he ‘fucking hopes’ The Batman 2 starts filming soon, saying ‘I’m 38, I’m old.”
Personally, I can’t wait for the new Batman movie! Are there any other characters, DC or Marvel, that you’d rather see get a movie?
