If you’re a Guns N’ Roses fan, you’ve probably heard this before: new music is coming.
But this time, Slash is offering something a little more tangible than a vague promise. Writing is happening within the band, and the guitarist says they’re hoping to get into a studio soon!
In a podcast interview with Rolling Stone Australia, Slash said there was “a lot of writing going on” within Guns N’ Roses, raising the possibility that the band could finally be moving toward a new full-length album.
The wait has been a long one. Guns N’ Roses haven’t released a full-length album since 2008’s much-delayed Chinese Democracy. The last LP featuring either Slash or bassist Duff McKagan was the 1993 covers album The Spaghetti Incident?
There is, however, one thing standing between the band and a potential studio session: Slash has another record to get out into the world first.
“We just finished the new record that’s coming out after this Guns N’ Roses tour, and then we’re gonna go on the road,” he told Rolling Stone Australia. “It comes out in February [2027]. So right after this [Guns N’ Roses] tour’s over, that one starts up…”
That new album is a collaboration with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, and Slash has a world tour planned with the group.
But when it comes to Guns N’ Roses, Slash says he has no plans to walk away again.
“I do it because I love to do it … I just love jamming with those guys, and we get together and we just play. It’s also very simple.”
The band reunited in 2016 with a partial lineup of its original members, including Axl Rose, Duff McKagan and Slash. Since then, Slash has repeatedly hinted that new Guns N’ Roses music was possible.
Back in 2019, he said there was already material taking shape for a new record, while acknowledging that Guns N’ Roses don’t exactly operate according to a rigid schedule.
“There’s material and stuff going on already for a new record. It’s just that, with Guns N’ Roses, you don’t go ‘Oh, there’s a plan, and it’s going to be like this.’ That’s not how it works.”
He added: “We’re hoping to put a new record out, and we’ll just see what happens when it happens.”
By late 2025, Slash was talking about “so much material,” but said getting the music finished would come down to “having the discipline to sit down and fucking get into it.”
“So it’s coming,” he promised. “I know it’s coming because everybody is thinking about it. It’ll just happen when it happens.”
Along with the planned Guns N’ Roses activity, Slash has also stated his intention to tour internationally behind his 2024 blues cover record, Orgy Of The Damned.
So after years of “it’ll happen when it happens,” how soon before you hear a new Guns N’ Roses album?
