Iron Maiden announce “unrestricted” new documentary film – including final Paul Di’Anno interview

This will make any Iron Maiden fan salivate. The band is releasing a new documentary that has the final interview from former frontman Paul Di’Anno!

You don’t have that look a wait – the band teamed with Universal Pictures Content Group and the plan is to have the doc out later this year (to mark 50 years since Maiden formed).

As you’d expect, the feature-length documentary will travel the band’s history. There’s contributions from life-long fans, and some mega-stars, including actor Javier Bardem, Metallica’s Lar Ulrich and KISS’ Gene Simmons.

There’s rare archival footage and all-new animated sequences of the band’s legendary mascot, Eddie, too! And, the last interview with original late-singer Paul Di’Anno. That will be cool to see!

They haven’t named the doc yet – nor given a release date – but it’s expected this fall. Malcolm Venville (Churchill At War) is directing and production has come from Dominic Freeman (Spirits In The Forest – A Depeche Mode Film).

The band’s manager, Ron Smallwood, said, “We’re proud Universal Pictures Content Group has chosen to share the unique story of Iron Maiden with the world. We have given them unrestricted access to the band, our fans and musical peers.

We trust that they will excite not only music fans but also anyone who loves a story of an underdog beating the odds to become and remain one of Britain’s biggest musical exports since our first record released 45 years ago.”

News of this new doc comes hot on the heels of Iron Maiden recently saying they were celebrating five decades together by putting out a new visual book, ‘Infinite Dreams’, in the fall. It will have previously-unseen images of the members, as well as photos of the band’s instruments, stage props, hand-written lyrics and archival artifacts.

Meanwhile, Iron Maiden are getting ready for their ‘Run For Your Lives’ tour, starting in May ’25. The setlist will have only songs from their first nine studio albums, from their self-titled debut to ‘Fear Of The Dark’.

Can’t wait to see this new doc! If you could pick any band to have a documentary made about them, which band would you choose?
