Here’s Why Mormons Are furious with Hugh Grant’s ‘Heretic’ horror movie

Cue the drama. Mormons. Are. Pissed. And not diggin’ Hugh Grant‘s ‘Heretic’. It’s a horror flick. And before you go any further, watch the trailer below, and see if you can guess why the movie is ruffling feathers.

Spoiler alert. Bonus points if you also caught on at the blueberry pie candle.

In Hugh Grant’s ‘Heretic’, Grant is Mr. Reed, a mysterious and untrustworthy man. Those two young female Mormon missionaries didn’t stand a chance. They want to convert him to attend church and clearly, he has other plans.

Some creepy stuff goin’ on here. Your mind can easily picture this happening in real life. It happens in real life!

The missionaries are played by Sophie Thatcher (The Boogeyman, Yellowjackets) and Chloe East (The Fabelmans, True Blood), and once they realize they need to get out of Mr. Reed’s house, it’s too late. Now he’s making them choose doors in order to exit.

The Mormon church says the movie “promotes violence against women because of their faith”.

The statement adds, “Like many Hollywood productions, this is a work of fiction and is not based on actual events. It portrays the graphically violent treatment of women, including people of faith, and those who provide volunteer service to their communities. Any narrative that promotes violence against women because of their faith or undermines the contributions of volunteers runs counter to the safety and wellbeing of our communities.”

In the movie, Grant’s character sings Radiohead’s ‘Creep’. Hugh says, “I don’t do it very well. I think it’s a very difficult song to sing. I researched it a bit and they kind of hate it. One of them sketched it off, they recorded it and they never really bothered to put on proper lyrics (that) they liked. Everyone went mad for it and called for it at every Radiohead concert. Very difficult to sing. I didn’t crack that one.”

Not to make light, but who’s more outraged, Mormons or the people who didn’t like The Office: Australia?
