HBO Max recently confirmed the rumour on social media.
Variety reports that Lanterns will be led by showrunner Chris Mundy, who has worked on True Detective: Night Country and Ozark. Lanterns will have eight episodes.
Watchmen and The Leftovers writer Damon Lindelof and Mister Miracle and Supergirl writer Tom King will co-write and executive produce with Mundy!
Casey Bloys, chairman/CEO of HBO and Max Content said, “As part of James (Gunn) and Peter (Safran)’s vision for the DC Universe, this first new live action series will mark an exciting new era.”
Word is Lanterns will tell the story of Green Lantern Corps members Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Stewart is a new recruit. Jordan the tenured veteran. Both Lanterns are “drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”
They haven’t announced much – no cast members, nor episode directors.
Ryan Reynolds was the last to play a Green Lantern on-screen (back in 2011). It’s doubtful he’ll be back.
Sounds like more Green Lantern content is coming soon. Which other comic book characters should get their own series?
