Is it actually happening?! Brendan Fraser says the next chapter of The Mummy is finally “giving the fans what they want.”

After reports that Fraser and Rachel Weisz are reuniting for a brand-new sequel (their first time back together since kickstarting the franchise in 1999), Fraser is opening up about the long road back to the sands.

Fraser led three films, wrapping with 2008’s Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Now a fourth is rolling cameras, with Weisz returning and the Ready or Not / Scream duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett steering the ship.

Speaking with the Associated Press, Fraser reflected on the 17-year gap and how this new entry finally hits the tone he always wanted.

“I’m proud of the third one,” he said. “It stands on its own. But the one I wanted to make is forthcoming.”

Then he dropped the line fans have been waiting for: “I’ve been waiting 20 years for this call. Sometimes it was loud, sometimes it was a faint telegraph. Now? It’s time to give the fans what they want.”

The original 1999 film (which is a remake of the 1932 Boris Karloff classic) became a monster hit, hauling in over $420 million and spawning sequels, spinoffs, and even helped launch Dwayne Johnson’s movie career with The Scorpion King.

Universal tried rebooting the property in 2017 with Tom Cruise, but critical backlash and a scrapped cinematic universe buried that version quickly.

It’s slated for an April 2026 release.

Fraser meanwhile, fresh off his Oscar win for The Whale, will also play President Dwight D. Eisenhower in Pressure, centered on the tense days before D-Day.

Okay, so we’re getting another The Mummy movie. Which movie would you like to see have a sequel made?
