Forget casting rumours. Gunn says “everyone” wants to play Batman

Apparently everyone in Hollywood wants to be the Dark Knight. DC Studios boss James Gunn says big-name actors are practically lining up to throw on the cape for The Brave and the Bold.

As you know, Gunn is steering the rebooted DC Universe, which kicked off this summer with Superman and continues next year with Supergirl and Clayface. A Superman sequel (Man of Tomorrow) is already locked for 2027. But Batman? He hasn’t even shown up in this timeline yet, separate from Robert Pattinson’s The Batman series.

The plan is to adapt The Brave and the Bold, which introduces Bruce Wayne’s son Damian as Robin.

As you’d expect, that’s sparked debate over how old this Batman should be. In a chat with IGN, Gunn shot down the idea that the actor has to be mid-to-late 30s. “You have to wait to see the movie,” he teased. “Plenty of things are in flux with his parentage and all that stuff, so I wouldn’t take any of it for granted.”

Gunn did say that pretty much every actor in Hollywood wants the gig. “I can’t tell you the amount of big actors that have told me they want to be Batman. Honestly, it’s harder to find actors who don’t want to be Batman. He’s the one character everyone wants to play.”

Meanwhile, set photos from Clayface are hinting that The Joker might pop up there. Because, what’s Gotham without a lil’ chaos?

Who would you cast as the next Caped Crusader?
