Flea is stepping out on his own!
The Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist has announced his debut solo album, Honora, along with a run of intimate live dates across North America, the UK, and Europe!
The album arrives March 27 via Nonesuch Records and follows last month’s first single, A Plea. A ten-track collection, Honora finds Flea playing trumpet and bass, leaning hard into his earliest musical roots and his long-standing love of jazz.
Flea describes the record as a collaboration with an “elite band of modern jazz visionaries,” blending original compositions with reimagined songs by George Clinton, Jimmy Webb, Frank Ocean, Shea Taylor, Eddie Hazel, and Ann Ronell.
Guest vocalists include Nick Cave and Thom Yorke. The latter reunites with Flea after their work together in Atoms For Peace.
Honora is named after a beloved family member, with Flea composing and arranging the music and contributing vocals throughout. The core band includes producer and saxophonist Josh Johnson, guitarist Jeff Parker, bassist Anna Butterss, and drummer Deantoni Parks, alongside Mauro Refosco and Nate Walcott.
Flea will take Honora on the road this spring, beginning May 7 in Chicago. Canadian dates include Toronto and Montreal, followed by shows in New York, Washington, DC, and Los Angeles. European dates follow, with stops in Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, and a lone UK show at London’s KOKO on May 26.
Small rooms. Close quarters.
This comes while the Red Hot Chili Peppers remain active, having released Unlimited Love and Return Of The Dream Canteen in 2022 after guitarist John Frusciante rejoined the band.
But Honora isn’t about legacy. It’s about identity. This isn’t a side project. This is a statement.
