Everybody Scream: Florence + The Machine summon their next chapter

Florence + The Machine just dropped big news on you! A new album is coming. Title? Everybody Scream. Release date? Halloween.

The band made it official August 19 with a fisheye cover shot of Florence Welch in black and white, framed by wooden walls, looking witchy. Caption said: “Florence and the Machine, Everybody Scream, The new album, This Halloween.”

Pre-orders are already live. Standard formats: cassette (who the hell uses THESE things?), CD, vinyl. “Chamber Versions” of CD and vinyl will add four bonus tracks plus new artwork. A cassette “Bloodwood Edition” gets different visuals. And of course, bundles on bundles.

Gotta say, fans saw this coming. Last month Welch teased cryptic whiteboard notes: “You can have it all.” A list underneath read clarity, power, purpose, vocals, space, dynamics, beauty. She also scribbled “Swans vs Adele.” Then came studio shots with IDLES guitarist Mark Bowen, who’s been hyping the collab on his socials.

Welch also kept dropping hints: witchcraft, folk horror, mysticism, magic, poetry, insanity. She even shared a photo of Simon Critchley’s book On Mysticism. Not really subtle (with hindsight).

This will be Florence + The Machine’s first record since Dance Fever in 2022. It also follows the 10th anniversary of How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful and last year’s orchestral Symphony Of Lungs show at Royal Albert Hall.

Halloween feels like the only date they could’ve picked. Right?
