Eminem requests protective order against ‘Real Housewives’ stars

We started hearing about this trademark dispute earlier in the year – now, Eminem has asked for a protective order against The Real Housewives of Potomac stars Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon.

Eminem (real name Marshall Bruce Mathers III) filed an opposition to a trademark request earlier in the year again the Reasonably Shady podcast.

Yes, like me, this is likely the first time you’re hearing about this podcast.

Mathers argues that his brand would be “damaged” if they were granted the trademark for their show, because he is known as Slim Shady and Shady. He also owns the trademark for the term “Shady” for use on merchandise.

Bryant and Dixon have asked the court to dismiss Mather’s opposition and insist that he be deposed (testify under oath or by written statement).

Bryant and Dixon’s attorney Andrea Evans said, “It seems obvious to us that if you file a lawsuit, you should be made available to be deposed.”

Evans said they’d “like to question Mathers at least about his use of the expressions Slim Shady and Shady” and added, “It’s unclear to us that Mathers can be the owner of the trademarks and file this suit against our clients but he will not make himself available to be deposed.”

Do you think Eminem’s beef is warranted or should he chill out? He is shining a light on a podcast I’d otherwise never heard of. Just my 2 cents.
