Did you hear? Elvis Costello announced a new boxed set, and has shared a cover of country classic ‘Only Daddy That’ll Walk The Line’!
The song was made famous by Waylon Jennings back in 1968 – went to #2 on the US Hot Country Songs chart. Big. Big enough that Linda Ronstadt and Hank Williams Jr, both covered it, and now, Costello has released his live version.
Costello’s live version comes from 1987 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Costello played a six-date residency there and recorded the shows. You haven’t had a chance to hear anything until now.
The boxed set is called ‘King Of America & Other Realms’ – a six-disc reissue of his 1986 album ‘King Of America’. You’ll be able to buy it as of November 1. 97 tracks and a 35-page essay written by Costello, illustrated with never-before-seen photographs from Costello’s tours from the era. The 57-page booklet will also be housed in a 12” x 11.5” package, complete with cover art by Terence Donovan.
As you’d expect, the full ’87 Royal Albert Hall concert is included in the boxed set. Pre-order here.
Cool. Elvis Costello has an aura of cool about him – and this just magnified it a bit more.
