Dave Gahan & co. must want your head to explode. That must be it. Depeche Mode are releasing an new epic live movie called M!
In the new concert film (in theatres later this year), you’ll see footage of their recent live shows in Mexico City, held as part of their ‘Memento Mori’ tour that spanned between 2023 and 2024. Expect lots of archival footage – playing to nearly 200,000 Mexican fans. It was conceptualized and directed by award-winning filmmaker Fernando Frias.
A description for the film reads, “Through Frias’ creative lens, the cinematic experience weaves footage from the three sold-out shows at Mexico City’s Foro Sol Stadium to explore the parallels between the themes on Depeche Mode’s latest album ‘Memento Mori’ and the deep connection to death and mortality in Mexican culture.”
During the tour, Depeche Mode played to more than 3 million fans across 112 concerts worldwide.
The band said they’ll share more details about the film at a later date – for now, at least we know ‘M’ is coming!
Bandmates Dave Gahan and Martin Gore did an interview with NME before that big tour. It’s worth watching.
Very cool, right? Which other bands/artists would you like to see release a live album?
