40 years ago this month, on January 28, 1985, Roth debuted as a solo artist with the release of the “Crazy From The Heat” EP. It cracked the Top 15 of the Billboard 200 and reached RIAA platinum status and had two Billboard Hot 100 hits – “Just a Gigolo/I Ain’t Got Nobody” went to #12 and his take on “California Girls” by The Beach Boys went to #3.

That EP paved the way for his first full-length solo LP, “Eat ‘Em And Smile”. Released on July 7, 1986, it went to #5 on the Billboard 200 and eventually went RIAA platinum.

You saw Roth release ‘Skyscraper’ in 1987 and a return to Top 10 of the Billboard 200, with help from his hit single, “Just Like Paradise”. Roth then started the ’90s with his gold-selling “A Little Ain’t Enough”. It was his fourth straight Top 20 debut on the Billboard 200. Then, in 1994, David Lee Roth released “Your Filthy Little Mouth”.

David Lee Roth, a.k.a. “Diamond Dave”, remains one of the most influential voices in rock history. Between his output as the original lead singer for Van Halen and his solo work, he’s sold over 70 million records worldwide, and is inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame (2007).
