Production for the movie is underway, with shooting scheduled to start in Sicily in March ’25. You should see the movie in theatres on July 17, 2026.
Based on the Ancient Greek epic poem from the eighth century BC by Homer, Damon stars as Odysseus, the legendary Greek king of Ithaca as he journeys home following the Trojan War.
The first glimpse of Damon in character was leaked online on today (February 17).
The Odyssey is the third collaboration between Damon and Nolan. Matt was in Interstellar (2014), where he played the stranded astronaut Dr. Mann, and Oppenheimer (2023), where he was General Groves, the military leader overseeing the Manhattan Project.
Expect a star-studded lineup in The Odyssey – including Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlie Theron and Mia Goth. Wonder what the budget is for this movie?!
The original text is considered one of the most influential works of all time.
We heard about filming locations last month, with some of the movie being shot on the island of Favignana, known as “goat island”. It’s said to be the place where Homer imagines the hero Odysseus landing with his crew for provisions off of Sicily’s north-west coast.
They’re also filming in the UK and Morrocco.
Meanwhile, Matt Damon is said to also be working on the sequel to the 1999 movie ‘Dogma’. Director Kevin Smith told a live studio audience in November, “I’m fucking tickled, I found a way in.” and said the original stars will be involved with “more than a fucking cameo”.
