This should come as no surprise to anyone reading this. Bruce Springsteen has said that his forthcoming biopic, Deliver Me From Nowhere, has moments of his life that were so ‘painful’ that he couldn’t be on set.
I guess if they’re doing it right, you wouldn’t want to be around, reliving your worst moments. Right?
The biopic is directed by Scott Cooper and stars Jeremy Allen White (The Bear). It shows the New Jersey star’s story of recording his sixth album, ‘Nebraska’, back in 1982. Springsteen was close to becoming the worldwide superstar we know today. The movie shows Bruce at his most vulnerable, truly telling his incredible story. Jeremy Strong (Succession) plays Jon Landau, Springsteen’s manager and record producer. Adolenscene’s Stephen Graham is Bruce’s dad, Douglas Springsteen.
Bruce has given the biopic his blessing, the green-light, so to speak and has visited the set regularly, and said did realize him being on set may put undue pressure on Allen White. Springsteen told Rolling Stone, “Jeremy Allen White was very, very tolerant of me the days that I would appear on the set. I said to him, ‘Look, anytime I’m in the way, just give me the look and I’m on my way home.’ So the days that I got out there, he was wonderfully tolerant with me being there. And it was just fun. It was enjoyable”.
But not everything was enjoyable. Certain days where they were shooting emotional scene, for example.
Bruce elaborated, “I mean, there’s some unusualness to it because the movie involves, in some ways, some of the most painful days of my life. If there was a scene coming up that was sometimes really deeply personal, I wanted the actors to feel completely free, and I didn’t want to get in the way, and so I would just stay at home”,
Deliver Me From Nowhere hits theatres on October 24.
Fans of Springsteen gotta be fired up for this biopic! If you could pick one artist to get the same treatement, who do you choose?
