Alex Van Halen’s ‘Brothers’ Audiobook Version To Include Previously Unreleased Song

August 25, 2024

Great news! The audiobook version of “Brothers”, the upcoming book release from Van Halen drummer Alex Van Halen, has a previously unreleased song called ‘Unfinished’. It is the last piece of music Alex and brother Eddie worked on together. You’ll hear the song as Alex narrates his story!

The book is being released on October 22. It’s 384-pages and is $32.00 USD.

As you’d expect, Alex shares his personal story of family, friendship and music. Acclaimed New Yorker writer Ariel Levy helps Alex tell the story. “Brothers” is the 70-year-old drummer’s love letter to his younger brother, guitarist Edward “Eddie” Van Halen and was written while Alex was still mourning Eddie’s death (Eddie passed away in October 2020 at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California from complications due to cancer).

Alex recounts the brothers’ childhood, from growing up in the Netherlands, to being working-class Pasadena, California. His dad was a musician, his mom proper Indonesian-born, who told the boys to “always wear a suit” no matter how famous they became. Alex shares stories of musical politics, infighting, and the rock n’ roll lifestyle. Mostly, it’s about brotherhood, music and love.

Alex writes, “I was with him from day one. We shared the experience of coming to this country and figuring out how to fit in. We shared a record player, an 800-square-foot house, a mom and dad, and a work ethic. Later, we shared the back of a tour bus, alcoholism, the experience of becoming famous, of becoming fathers and uncles, and of spending more hours in the studio than I’ve spent doing anything else in this life. We shared a depth of understanding that most people can only hope to achieve in a lifetime.”

If you order the book thru VanHalenStore.com, you’ll receive a free exclusive collectible as a bonus. “Brothers” will be made available as a 720-minute audiobook and an eBook.

Alex’s band, Van Halen, was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2007.

What’s your favourite rock autobiography? I cannot wait to get my hands on this audiobook and listen to Alex tell his story!
