Aerosmith Announces Retirement From Touring

August 5, 2024

Woah. Did you hear? Aerosmith announced they’re retiring from touring!

If you’ve kept up with the band, they started their “Peace Out” farewell tour last September, and postponed most of the dates after 76-year-old singer Steven Tyler suffered a vocal cord injury.

Earlier on Friday, August 2, the band put this statement out on social media, “It was 1970 when a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark caught flame and has been burning for over five decades. Some of you have been with us since the beginning and all of you are the reason we made rock ‘n’ roll history. It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours. In every club, on every massive tour and at moments grand and private you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives.

“We’ve always wanted to blow your mind when performing. As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision — as a band of brothers — to retire from the touring stage.

“We are grateful beyond words for everyone who was pumped to get on the road with us one last time. Grateful to our expert crew, our incredible team and the thousands of talented people who’ve made our historic runs possible. A final thank you to you — the best fans on planet Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true.”

If you have tickets to a show on their “Peace Out”, you can get a refund thru Ticketmaster.

Since Aerosmith formed 54 years ago, they’ve sold over 150 million albums, have massive radio singles “Amazing”, “Crazy”, “Janie’s Got A Gun”, “Livin’ On The Edge” and “Love In An Elevator”, a smash Las Vegas residency, were the first hard rock band to play a Super Bowl Halftime Show, and have a themed attraction at Disney World in Florida.

Huge doesn’t begin to describe Aerosmith.

You’ve seen/heard their music in movies, television shows and video games. MusiCares honoured the band in 2020 as Person Of The Year for their artistic achievements and dedication to philanthropy, including Steven Tyler’s initiative Janie’s Fund initiative, which supports young women who’ve suffered the trauma of abuse and neglect.

Aerosmith was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2001.

They’re retired from touring – but that doesn’t mean we won’t get new music, right?

The train kept a’ rolling for quite some time – but all good things must come to an end. Great run, boys!
