Everyone has an artist or band who feels like they’ve always been there. You hear their voice, see them in a movie or TV show, and after a while, it almost becomes impossible to separate the person from the legend. That’s the challenge facing Hollywood now, because Snoop Dogg‘s story is officially heading to the big screen.
Universal Pictures has confirmed that Snoop, the long-awaited biopic based on Snoop Dogg’s life and career, will arrive in theatres on August 6, 2027.
The project, first announced in 2022, officially moved forward last year with Coming 2 America, Hustle & Flow, Footloose and Dolemite Is My Name director Craig Brewer taking over directing duties.
Outer Banks star Jonathan Daviss will portray Snoop Dogg. After the casting announcement, Snoop shared photos of himself with the actor on social media, writing, “Let’s go nefew! It’s time!” Daviss replied with a simple, “Bow wow wow.”
Snoop is the first film to be produced under Universal’s overall deal with Death Row Pictures, Snoop Dogg’s content label. The film will be produced by Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, along with Snoop Dogg and Death Row Pictures President Sara Ramaker.
Story details remain under wraps, according to Variety, leaving it unclear whether the movie will span Snoop’s entire career or focus on a defining chapter of his life.
The project has evolved since it was first announced in 2022. At that time, Black Panther co-writer Joe Robert Cole was attached to write the screenplay, while Allen Hughes was set to direct.
Snoop Dogg is also preparing for another film project, this time stepping into the horror genre with director Eli Roth.
Originally announced as a producer and soundtrack contributor, Snoop will now also appear on screen.

“He’s been wanting to do Death Row Films for a long time,” Roth said. “I said we need to make the ultimate haunted house movie, like the craziest one, something that mixes House, House by the Cemetery, Hausu and Friday the 13th, like something so insane people can’t believe it exists.”
“And we’d have to call it, Don’t Go in That House, Bitch!” Roth continued. “And he’s going to star in it.”
Roth added that filming is expected to begin over the summer and summed up the premise with a warning that sounds perfectly suited to the title.
“People keep going in the house. People don’t listen. What are you doing, bitch? Don’t go in that house.”
With a release date finally on the calendar and another film already in the works, Snoop Dogg is set to add two more chapters to an already remarkable entertainment career. Which period of Snoop’s life are you hoping the biopic explores?
