If you’ve been wondering where Daughtry goes next after their heaviest chapter yet, singer Chris Daughtry has the answer: deep into writing a new album.
Speaking with James Wilson-Taylor of Rock Sound, the Daughtry frontman confirmed that work is underway on the follow-up to 2021’s Dearly Beloved. While details remain scarce, Chris revealed that the creative process is already producing exciting results.
“Oh, yeah. We are in the writing process,” he said. “I can say this, ’cause I posted about it, but I’m working with Jordan Fish. And we are a few songs deep right now. And it’s going amazing. So we’re getting back together later in the year to finish writing. Yeah, it’s exciting.”
Fish, the former Bring Me The Horizon member, producer and songwriter, has become one of the most sought-after collaborators in modern rock. According to Chris, one of Fish’s biggest strengths is helping artists evolve without losing their identity.
“It’s great because if you listen to the new Evanescence record, you can hear some Jordan Fish-isms, but it’s clearly an Evanescence record,” Chris explained. “And I think it’s great that he keeps that in mind with who he’s working with, as a fan of the band and really bringing out the best in what they already do.”
That approach appears to be carrying over into the new Daughtry material.
“I think that’s the goal with us as well,” he continued. “And, yeah, we’re excited to see where it’s headed. There’s some heat. I’m just going ahead and let you know, there’s some heat going on.”
The new album will follow the band’s Shock To The System era, a project that showcased a heavier and more aggressive side of Daughtry while continuing to explore themes of grief, healing, change and personal growth.
Most recently, the band released Shock To The System (Deluxe), which combines both chapters of the project into a single collection alongside additional live recordings.
The songs featured across the project include:
- Artificial
- Pieces
- The Seeds
- Divided
- The Day I Die
- The Bottom
- Terrified
- Razor
- Antidote
The Shock To The System releases marked a major milestone for the band. Artificial became Daughtry’s first-ever No. 1 song at Active Rock radio, while Pieces followed with another chart-topping run.
Long before this latest chapter, Daughtry had already established itself as one of the most successful rock acts of the 21st century. The band has earned multiple gold and platinum certifications, debuted twice at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, sold more than nine million albums and 25 million singles worldwide, and built a catalogue that continues to resonate with rock audiences.
Since Dearly Beloved produced hits including World On Fire, Heavy Is The Crown and Changes Are Coming, Chris has remained active through collaborations with artists such as Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale, Papa Roach, Bad Wolves, Nothing More and Sevendust.
Now, with new songs taking shape alongside Jordan Fish, it sounds like the next chapter is already gaining momentum! Is another No. 1 song at Active Rock far behind?
