Sublime announce first album in 30 years

Three decades later, Sublime return with something new… and something deeply personal.

In case you missed it, the Long Beach legends announced their first new album in 30 years, Until The Sun Explodes, is coming June 12 via Atlantic Records. It also marks a new chapter, with Jakob Nowell stepping in on vocals, carrying forward the voice and legacy of his father, Bradley Nowell.

The album, first teased last year with help from Travis Barker, pulls in a stacked lineup of collaborators, including H.R., Fletcher Dragge, G. Love, FIDLAR, and Skegss.

Jakob turns it into a tribute to Bradley, who died in 1996 when Jakob was still an infant. “Until the sun blows up in the sky / I owe you my life,” he sings, over a video that weaves through Long Beach landmarks and SoCal skate culture.

Jakob is clear about what this is… and what it isn’t.

“The last Sublime record that will ever be made is Self-Titled,” he says. “There’s no replacing history, period.”

He calls this new album “an epilogue”… and the title track “the epilogue to the epilogue.” A tribute. A thank you. “I love you dad, and I owe you my life.”

Founding drummer Bud Gaugh backs that up: “It expresses the gratitude we all feel… and our intent for the future.”

Bassist Eric Wilson puts it even simpler: this one’s built for summer.

And after 30 years… that feels about right.

Meanwhile, Sublime heads overseas soon, making their UK debut at Slam Dunk Festival this May.
