Jamie Lee Curtis is stepping into one of TV’s most iconic roles.

A big-screen version of Murder, She Wrote is officially in the works, with Curtis set to play Jessica Fletcher. The film is targeting a December 22, 2027 theatrical release… right in the middle of holiday blockbuster season.

The role was immortalized by Angela Lansbury, who carried the series for 12 seasons and a string of TV movies. At its peak, the show pulled in 25 million viewers… and it never really left. Syndication kept it alive.

Fans never let it go.

A reboot attempt in 2013, with Octavia Spencer, never made it off the ground.

Directing is Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect), but details are locked tight for now.

Curtis steps into this with serious momentum. Fresh off her Oscar win for Everything Everywhere All At Once, she’s been on a late-career run… from returning to Halloween to new projects like Scarpetta alongside Nicole Kidman.

Meanwhile, the shadow of Lansbury still looms large. She passed in 2022 at 96, with a final cameo in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery… a quiet exit for a legend who defined the role.

Now the question is simple. Can lightning strike twice?
