The upcoming God of War series on Amazon Prime Video draws heavily from the franchise’s Norse era, specifically 2018’s God of War and 2022’s Ragnarök. The original game series was created by David Jaffe.

The official synopsis reads, “Kratos and his son Atreus set out to scatter the ashes of Faye from the highest peak in the realms. Along the way, Kratos attempts to teach his son how to be a better god, while Atreus tries to show his father how to be more human.”

The newly released image features Ryan Hurst stepping into the role of Kratos, with Callum Vinson beside him as Atreus. Prime Video teased the reveal on Instagram with the caption: “Father and Son. Behold your first look at Kratos and Atreus… Their journey to the highest peak begins.”

Interestingly, Hurst previously voiced and performed Thor opposite Kratos in Ragnarök, but will now headline the series as the Ghost of Sparta himself.

Hurst is best known for playing Beta in The Walking Dead and Opie in Sons of Anarchy, with film roles in Saving Private Ryan and We Were Soldiers. He is also attached to The Odyssey, the upcoming historical epic from Christopher Nolan.

Additional casting has rounded out the Norse mythology heavyweights. Ólafur Darri Ólafsson will portray Thor, alongside Teresa Palmer as Sif, Max Parker as Heimdall, Mandy Patinkin as Odin and Ed Skrein as Baldur.

There’s no release date yet, and production is expected to begin later this year. Moore previously raised eyebrows by admitting he had not played the original games.

The highest peak awaits.
