Sully Erna Addresses Godsmack’s Next Chapter

You gotta watch this. On the latest episode of Kylie Olsson’s Life In Six Strings, Kylie travels to Lawrence, Massachusetts, the hometown of Godsmack frontman Sully Erna, for a look at the roots of his career and what’s next.

The episode takes you inside Erna’s self-described “music house” in New Hampshire before wrapping at Godsmack headquarters. Along the way, guitars come out, he tells stories and he walks Kylie through his personal collection while showing her how to play “Something Different.”

During the conversation, Erna addressed the future of Godsmack and whether new music could still happen.

“I think there will,” he said, while clarifying that any future release would not feature the band’s original lineup. Longtime drummer Shannon Larkin and guitarist Tony Rombola officially retired earlier this year. “There’s no drama. We’re still really good friends.”

Erna confirmed new players are being tested and that plans are forming for 2026. “The band’s coming into the height of our career,” he said. “All these years later, we’re hitting another moment. It’s kind of come full circle.”

If you missed it, earlier this month, Godsmack announced a run of European shows for summer 2026, including festival appearances at Leyendas Del Rock in Spain and Dynamo Metal Fest in the Netherlands.

When the lineup changes were first confirmed, Erna said Larkin and Rombola stepped away to live a quieter life off the road, adding that their departure marked “the end of an era,” but also “new and exciting possibilities” for the band moving forward.

Godsmack’s most recent album, Lighting Up The Sky, arrived in February 2023 via BMG.
