Prime Video has released the first trailer for Madden, the upcoming biographical sports film directed and co-written by David O. Russell.
The film stars Nicolas Cage as legendary NFL coach, broadcaster, and video game icon John Madden, with Christian Bale cast as Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis. Madden traces Madden’s rise from Super Bowl–winning coach to cultural force, including his central role in the creation of the Madden NFL video game franchise.
Russell co-wrote the screenplay based on an earlier draft by Cambron Clark. The cast also includes Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden, John Mulaney as Trip Hawkins, Sienna Miller as Carol Davis, Joel Murray as Pat Summerall, and Shane Gillis.
You first heard about the project in May 2023, with Will Ferrell initially linked to the lead role before Cage was cast later that summer. Bale and several supporting cast members were confirmed in 2025.
Production began April 24, 2025, in Atlanta. During filming, reports surfaced alleging on-set tensions involving Russell, including claims that cast and crew members walked off after objections to his use of a racial slur. No official statement has been issued by Prime Video regarding the incident.
Madden is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on November 26, 2026.
Are you ready for some football?!
