A year ago, Trent Reznor sounded like he was burnt out on today’s music industry. It wasn’t clear if you’d even hear new Nine Inch Nails music. Fast forward to now, and the fire is back!
After Nine Inch Nails’ explosive “Peel It Back” tour and its work on the upcoming Tron: Ares soundtrack, Reznor says new Nine Inch Nails music has become his top priority once again.
In December 2024, Reznor didn’t mince words while speaking with IndieWire, criticizing how technology has reshaped the music business and devalued the way people engage with music. He described a culture where music no longer feels central, but instead fades into the background.
A year later, that frustration has been replaced with momentum.
Speaking with Consequence as part of its 2025 Live Act of the Year coverage, Reznor confirmed that Nine Inch Nails is actively working on new material and, for the first time in a while, putting the band ahead of outside projects.
According to Reznor, the creative spark has been reignited. While details remain under wraps, he says the difference between now and a year ago is simple. The fuse has been lit, and the desire to create new Nine Inch Nails music is back.
Meanwhile, Nine Inch Nails will continue riding that momentum into 2025, launching a new North American leg of the “Peel It Back” tour in February and appearing at Coachella under the name Nine Inch Noize.
