Björk Builds a New World: Album in Development, Installations Incoming

If you believe everything you read on the internet, expect a new Björk album in 2026!

Well, I guess we can believe it, since it’s coming from her Insta account.

The Icelandic icon hasn’t released a full studio album since 2022’s Fossora, but a fresh announcement tied to next summer’s National Gallery of Iceland exhibition has fans reading between the lines.

In an Instagram reveal, Björk and longtime collaborator James Merry confirmed they’ll be taking over the entire gallery during the Reykjavik Arts Festival, opening May 30, 2026. The exhibition, called Echolalia, promises three immersive installations: Ancestress, Sorrowful Soil, and a third piece that’s still unnamed.

That mystery installation is the tell… it’s built around music from Björk’s forthcoming album, currently in development.

Ancestress and Sorrowful Soil borrow their names from Fossora tracks written as tributes to Björk’s mother, Hildur Rúna Hauksdóttir. The new installations are said to echo those emotional wavelengths, carrying the same spirit of grief, resilience and remembrance.

If the signs are right, 2026 could be the year Björk releases new music!

Did you ever get into Björk? Some incredible material, if you give her some of your time.
