‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’ delayed

What’s happening at Disney? They just announced the next two Avengers movies have been delayed. They were supposed to come out this month but now you’ll have to wait ’til December. This, of course, has pissed off the nerds.

Let’s get you up-to-speed. In Avengers: Doomsday, Robert Downey Jr. makes his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this time as Doctor Doom. Lord knows there’s a shortage of actors, so that makes sense, right? Iron Man is now Doctor Doom?! Okay then. That movie has moved from May 1, 2026, to December 18, 2026. And then the follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars, moves from May 7 to December 17 in ’27. The studio has moved The Devil Wears Prada 2 to Doomsday’s release slot.

That means you won’t see a new MCU movie for a YEAR. A YEAR! The Fantastic Four: The First Steps comes to theatres on July 25 and then Tom Holland returns in Spider-man: Brand New Day, on July 31, 2026.

The nerds aren’t having it. On Twitter, one account said, “A whole year without a marvel movie is insane”, another wrote, “Other than the break for COVID, FF and Spidey: Brand New Day will represent the longest period between MCU films since the 17-month gap between Incredible Hulk (June 2008) and Iron Man 2 (May 2010)”.

Another account thinks the delay could mean something good is coming, “If it means a better movie, I’m cool with waiting seven months”. Another said, “this is a good thing. Doomsday releasing in theaters in less than a year, with the film only a few weeks into production, always felt unrealistic. Let them cook”.

Meanwhile, Avengers: Doomsday directors Joe and Anthony Russo said that Downey Jr. is helping write Doctor Doom’s backstory.

You gotta think, the delay will give them more time to dial up the movie(s). And that’s a good thing, right?
