Warner Bros. and Legendary have confirmed a sequel to this year’s A Minecraft Movie, hitting theatres on July 23, 2027. Jared Hess returns to direct and co-write with Chris Galletta (the duo that brought the pixelated chaos to life the first time around).
The original Minecraft film turned out to be a monster hit, racking up $957.8 million worldwide and claiming the title of second highest-grossing movie of the year.
Not bad for a bunch of cubes.
Jack Black, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Coolidge, and Sebastian Hansen led the first adventure. No word yet on who’s returning. The official Minecraft account teased the news with just two words: “building terrain.”
Online, the fandom’s already firing up. If you missed it, the “chicken jockey” trend from the first film turned screenings into mini warzones: popcorn flying, kids yelling, chaos in surround sound. Director Jared Hess called it “bananas.”
Did you even watch the first Minecraft movie? Sure, it wracked up a lot of money at the box-office, but is it worthy of a sequel? Apparently so.
