Sonic Youth To Release rarities compilation ‘In/Out/In’

January 20, 2022

Sonic Youth recorded a bunch of music in the 2000s and have decided to release the rare tracks in a compilation called ‘In/Out/In’!

The five song EP is being released March 11 ’22. The band recorded two songs at the Echo Canyon studio in New York in 2000, one was done during a soundcheck in 2010, and the other two songs are home recordings from 2008.

A caption on BandCamp says the EP will “reveal their last decade to be still heavy on the roll-tape and bug-out Sonic Youth. The sequencing here is especially well thought out. The opener ‘Basement Contender’ is a super-unfiltered glimpse of the band at Kim and Thurston [Moore]’s Northampton house creating a gentle springboard of Venusian choogle, with phased Lee [Ranaldo] lappings at cascading Thurston figures forming a simmering soundtrack”.

Don’t let this good news fool you into thinking it means a reunion, however. Apparently that’s not happening. But, at least we get a handful of rarities!

‘In/Out/In’ track listing:

1. Basement Contender
2. In & Out
3. Machine
4. Social Static
5. Out & In
